Hot Air Balloon Bridal Shower – Part 2
Thursday, November 10th, 2011Looking for ideas for a hot air ballon themed bridal or baby shower? I am sharing my ideas from my own personal bridal shower that includes everything from decorations, games, favours, invitations and more. Incase you missed part 1 of this feature, it’s here.
Finding decorations for my shower wasn’t exactly easy. Hot air balloon bridal showers aren’t so popular. All of the decoration ideas I had come across involved some pretty hanging decoration but the ceilings in the hall were super high. This meant that there was absolutely no way I was going to be hanging anything, and So what’s a girl to do?
I had bought all kinds of tiny baskets from Michaels for $1.50 each, without knowing what I was going to do with them. I decided to attach a pink balloon to each basket and have them placed throughout the room. I used glass pebbles that I bought at the dollar store in the bottom of the basket to make sure my baskets wouldn’t end up flying away. It worked out great!

Decorations
Each table had a money tree centrepiece that was set in a woven basket with a pink ribbon tied around it. I also made these table numbers which coordinated with my invitations and favour tags.

I had a hard time trying to think of favours for my guests, but after brainstorming with my fellow FMNDD Team members, I decided to do champagne glasses. It is tradition for the hot air balloon pilot to have a champagne toast after every flight, so the idea seemed perfect. Many balloonists recite the Balloonist’s Blessing, also known as ‘The Balloonists Prayer’ along with the champagne toast:
The winds have welcomed you with softness
The sun has blessed you with its warm hands
You have flown so high and so well
That God has joined you in your laughter
and set you gently back into the loving arms of mother earth.
I wanted to incorporate this poem into my favours so I added it onto my tags. And incase you were wondering, the pilot did recite this poem during our champagne toast after our hot air balloon ride.

Along with the champagne glasses everyone got a hot air balloon shaped lollipop from
Sweet Lollipop Shop on Etsy.

The older kids got a paint by number set that had a picture of a hot air balloon. The younger kids got a goodie bag that included a colouring book with a picture of a hot air balloon on the front, bubbles, crayons and a fun transportation themed puzzle that had – you guessed it – a hot air balloon on it . The babies that attended got this super cute hot air balloon toy from Toys R Us.
I forgot to mention a game I used when I wrote the last post. I filled a jar with mini marshmallows and had each guest guess how many marshmallows were inside. I really wanted to make cloud shaped marshmallows, but I ran out of time! Here’s the recipe from Cupcakes are Ugly Muffins, maybe I’ll try it some other time.
If you found this post interesting, helpful, or inspiring leave me a comment or if you have done your own hot air balloon shower I would love to see it!! Feel free to contact me if you would like any of these items recreated for your own shower or party.
